2 to 6 ft. long, throughout W. Hemisphere. Rapid onset of severe pain, swelling; mortality low, but amputation of affected digits is sometimes necessary; antivenom. Mojave rattler may produce temporary paralysis.

Sex: Male, 4.5 ft.  These pictures show the stages of 'Bandit' eating a mouse.

The first shows him just as he is swallowing the head.

The second shows about half the mouse swallowed.

The third shows the back feet about to be swallowed.

The final shows that just half the tail is left to swallow.
